Flirting Tips

November 24, 2012

In the Digital Era flirting could be easier, even for the very shy ones. Even our Hang Out on Holiday App is among those tools that can help you initiate contact with someone who catches your eye. But while kicking it off on the Internet has become somewhat easy, meeting face to face is just as much of a challenge as it always was. So whether you’re preparing to go out and meet someone, or you’re close to getting together with someone you’ve met over the Internet, it’s good to know a couple of things.

First of all, smile a lot, without forcing it. Smile shows that you’re comfortable with yourself and it’s also proof that you’re having a good time. It makes you look more open, trustworthy and for most people, their smiling face is their best angle.

Keep in mind that eye contact is a must. You know what they say, the eyes are the window to your soul and you can express a lot through them. Just like the smile, eye contact shows confidence, but should not be used excessively. Remember, staring is not appropriate eye contact!

Ask questions about the other person and stay focused on the answers too. It’s important to get to know someone and paying attention to the other one’s points of interest will help you keep him/her engaged, thus avoiding awkward silence. It’s always a good idea to start your sentences with “I wonder” and it never hurts to add a couple of compliments to the conversation. However, don’t use standard pick-up lines that sound fake or maybe just don’t apply; people love to be flattered but they also know their strong and weak points so don’t exaggerate. And last, but not least, try to avoid useless controversies; it’s good to stay loyal to your principles, but don’t be stubborn and avoid too many phrases that express disagreement since they’ll make you look negative.

As for body language, sit up straight, hold up your chin and avoid keeping your arms crossed. This seems to be hard for a lot of people because they feel they don’t know what to do with their hands. So what can you do with them? For one thing, casually touching the other person acts in your favour, and if you’re a girl there’s another great solution for this problem – playing with your hair.

These are probably the most important things you need to remember. Well, these and the holly law of acting natural. Sure, everybody tries hard at first to look better than they really are, but building up expectations that you won’t be able to fulfil later on will hurt you in the future. Relax, show off your strong points and focus more on your partner. This helps you build a connection with him/her and it will also take your mind off your own nervousness. And don’t forget to have a good time; flirting shouldn’t be a stressful experience. Flirting should be fun!
